The adidas Samba continues to be a favorite for everyday wear, and as spring approaches, the Three Stripes Brand is poised to introduce new distinctive designs. The Samba’s latest direction seems to be inspired by an obscure gem from the archives: the adidas Tischtennis.
With the adidas Tischtennis — a 1970s tennis shoe — resurfacing last month, its influence on new Samba designs doesn’t come completely out of nowhere. The Tischtennis’s hallmark is its open mesh base, a feature that’s now adapted into the Samba’s construction. However, the Samba appears to integrate an added layer underneath its mesh overlays, differing in offering the same breathability and lightness. Nevertheless, the shared mesh pattern creates a thematic link between the two models.
The colorway of focus here features tan mesh with “Preloved Red” accents over a gum sole, and its joined by a fully brown version of the same design theme. Both pairs release on April 1st at adidas.com for $120 a pop, a slight price hike compared to the Samba’s typical $100 tag.
